#11: Test Your Website

Now that you have your site uploaded, you need to make sure that everything is working right. First, you'll make a quick check on the site to make sure that all the pages are there. Then you'll make sure that all the links are working. Finally, you'll want to read through all your content and make sure that it reads okay.

Quick Check

Quite simply, you're just going to test all the links to make sure that all the pages exist and have been uploaded. Click on each main menu link, the logo (should link back to the home page), any links at the bottom and any other link that you may have elsewhere on the site.

Link Checker Program

To really speed things up and to thoroughly test your links, Download the Free Xenu Program.

1. Install the Program.
2. After the program has been installed, start it up.
3. Go to File menu, click on Check URL.
4. Enter in your URL and press OK.
5. Xenu will go through every page on your site and ask if you want a report when it's done.
6. When a window opens for checking orphan files, click on Cancel.
7. In the generated report, go through all the broken links. Now you'll need to fix them on your site!

Wrapping Up

After you fixed all the broken links, run Xenu again to make sure that you got 'em all. Now you should go through your entire site, actually reading through all your content. Make sure that it all makes sense. You may want to spell check your site as well.
